The Nillabyte Perspective: Technology

First Microsoft/Jerry Seinfeld Ad Airs and Errors

Microsoft, in order to counter Apple's "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads decided to come up with their own brand of ads to help Windows Vista. All I can say about the ad is:

What?!

This ad left me with the same thought I had after Microsoft released the pointless OS that is Windows Vista: Why did they do that?

After watching it for the tenth time, I've come to the conclusion that Microsoft isn't trying to sell a product, it's trying to sell it's name and possibly give itself an actual face. Many consumers think of Microsoft as a big, money-raking, faceless building in Washington state. Also, keep in mind that this is the first part of an ongoing ad campaign. Future ads may explain the "nothingness" of this ad.

I want a churro.

Additionally, after my wife saw it, she wanted to go shoe shopping.

I am no expert when it comes to computers and such but what WERE they selling? I thought it was going to be a Visa card commercial or something but I was WRONG. I guess it was nice to see Bill Gates but does he really shop discount shoes?

What did we really learn from this ad?
    1. Bill Gates shops at discount shoe stores. Why pay more?
    2. Jerry Seinfeld acts like a dork when he meets somebody famous.
    3. Jerry Seinfeld showers with his clothes on.
    4. At some point in the future, Microsoft WILL make our computers "moist and chewy like cake so we can just eat 'em while we're working." Verified by the aforementioned shorts adjusting.

All in all, a very educational commercial. And now we know what direction Microsoft is heading. Maybe Vista is such a resource hog because it's trying to cook our computers into that moist and chewy cake thing. I don't know about you, but I think I'll stick to eating churros and real cake, and keep my computer around to process data, manipulate photos, music and video, and . . . well, compute.

I hate to be the one to burst Bill and Jerry's little bubble, but once again, someone has beat Microsoft to the punch.
